Living with the Literal #1

Our youngest son is obsessed lately with his name meaning "warrior." We made the mistake of passing this information along when I looked it and his older brother's name up in The Character Naming Sourcebook, while researching names for a novel. To our surprise, his brother's name means "dark warrior" and while explaining this to the brothers, our youngest decided he was the "dark warrior" and needed to behave up to his name.

Or down to it, depending on your perspective.

His older brother thought he could help bring the little guy more into the realm of acceptable behavior by explaining that warriors have a code of conduct, and must obey the laws of the land in order to work with others. He must have gone on at length, because apparently our five year-old son interrupted with, "I don't know about you, but this dark warrior has a mind of his own."

His big brother thinks he's going to be OK.
