The Mamalogues

It is insane of me (and why not, see yesterday's list of mental health diagnoses), but I have signed up to take part in The Mamalogues, a monthly stand-up comedy night at Airplay Cafe that piqued my interest and was then urged to do by a writer friend/personal cheerleader. So save these dates: March 12th and June 11th, to listen to me mamalogue on dropping a thong on the 2nd grade classroom floor, and freaking out about the irony of teenagers playing Rock Band in our basement, when "Rock Band in the basement" was very different back in the day. I'd love to see some friendly faces in the audience.

But don't just go to the show, take part! Here is the listing about TIME OUT: THE MAMALOGUES that the organizer posted:

"Local moms wanted to join the show

Portland, Oregon - After issuing time out's all day to small children, the one person who really needs a time out is mom. Burnside St. in Portland.

TIME OUT: THE MAMALOGUES will start off at 7 pm with stand-up, then open the stage for moms to tell their stories. Every mom who shares a story will win a wonderful parting gift! Jacki will pepper stand-up in between "mamalogues." The "headliner" at the end of the show will be a mom celebrity sharing her story, performing music or doing a reading.

About Airplay Café
Opened by Patti Jagger and her musician husband Andy Simon, Airplay Café has a split personality. By day, Airplay offers a casual, comfortable setting where kids romp and parents relax. At night, the lights go dim and the casual setting goes more minimalist modern with live music acts and other events. A barista is on hand to serve up coffee, wine, beer on tap, bistro fare and unique desserts.

About Jacki Sturkie
Jacki Sturkie is a Portland mom, stand-up comedian, and owner of Sass Mouth Cards, greeting cards that take on life as a jaded mom. In her former life, Jacki worked as a copywriter and stand-up comic, but quit doing when she got tired of living out of her car. Jacki also writes Daily SASSfirmations (a not-so-inspirational blog at, runs an industrial design firm with her husband (, and tries to keep her two small children from impaling themselves on household objects."
