Happy Birthday Baby

The "baby" in the family turned six today, and he's mighty proud. He has a loose tooth ready to pop, a fixation that being six involves more mature behavior and better manners (Hurrah!) causing him to be phenomenally civil so far, plans for his birthday involving "funfetti" cake and Burger King, and a fever.

We were going to the zoo this afternoon to indulge him with Dippin' Dots, an odd type of ice cream treat we never splurge on, while viewing the wildlife, but that became out of the question last night when he appeared at our bedside, eyes dilated, burning hot. He was still feverish this morning, and his cough constant, though both eased up for awhile, before he crashed shortly ago for an absolutely needed nap.

Then there is the snow--navigating the highway and hills with who knows how much slush on the streets is not my favorite thing. So it is good we are home, and he enjoyed the view outside while hanging with his sister playing Animal Crossing, City Folk and watching Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders (two thumbs up) plus Slappy and the Stinkers (strangely hilarious in parts, as well as sophomoric, and B. D. Wong always rocks).

Post-nap we will have Burger King, watch another movie (Robin Hood, Horton Hears a Who, Air Buddies?), sing happy birthday, eat cake and got to bed early. His birthday capacity is small and confined, and in many ways, sailing through it with a fever is cushioning him from the amount of stress a birthday comes with. What matters is that when he is awake, and vaguely alert, he is having a happy birthday.
